Leaving tomorrow morning to go hoon in Missouri. Second rally in three weeks and third this year. So far this year I’m spending 1 out of every 3.6 days on the road.

Last year I put 13,000 miles on my car on rally trips. I also flew to two of the rallies and rode in the tow rig for another event, so...

I actually take extremely good care of her, because I rely on her for so much. Spent about $6-7,000 last year on preventative maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.

My “rather fly than drive” cutoff is about 2,000 miles one way.

I Normally drives 700 mile trip to Chicago in less then 11 hours. So I do not know when to take breaks

Mine is usually a financial decision. If flying (including bag fees, parking, and a rental car if need be) is more expensive than driving (including gas calculated to the low end of my economy and using the highest state fuel average along my route, tolls, hotels every 6-10 hours, oil changes, and vehicle wear) then I drive.

Ah crap, I forgot you live in MA, I was up in Worcester a few weeks ago.
The crazy thing about traveling a lot is when you’re home for a few days you begin to get a bit cagey, that’s how I am anyways. Have a couple weeks until I leave next and I really don’t know what to do with the time, it’s weird.

Has it gotten worse since January? Did it then and it wasn’t that terrible. I might cut through Pennsylvania on the way back like I’m doing going out.

I know what you mean. I go nuts when it’s more than 4-6 weeks between rallies.

I think it has, I just came up from Philly to home in Watkins Glen and it was a lot rougher than I remember. Although, if you’re in a nice big car as opposed to a Mini with a firm suspension and low profile tires, I’m sure its more manageable.

A nice sit-down dinner at Lambert’s will calm you, and probably weigh the ar down by another ten pounds when you’re finished.

Another reply here: The bad thing here about that rally, as old and big and amazing as it is, is that I grew up in the capitol city not far away. My grandparents lived down the road from the event. I grew up with cars in the brain sickness. And not once did I ever hear of that event my whole life in that state. It’s a shame, but some sort of publicity needs to be created around some sort of anniversary running in the future.

Sadly that’s true pretty much everywhere. I went out to Prescott Rally in 2010 and throughout the weekend we met people who lived right there in the city their entire lives and never knew about the rally.

I’m driving a 1-of-3,500 car (likely 1 of <800 in blue) with an Oppo sticker on one side and a The Rally Takeover sticker on the other.

Too late to edit, but also a factor in the drive/fly decision is what’s on the drive. Give me the chance to visit the Badlands, the Arches, or the Pacific coast and it’s car all the way. Hell, I’m thinking of flying into Rapid City, SD for a rally in Minnesota, and Seattle for one in Oregon. And...

That would not be helpful for the other rallies in the season
